Cycling shoes
come with a variety of closure methods: one, two, three,
or four Velcro straps, a combination of Velcro straps
with an upper ratchet strap, single and dual capstans
that pull up nylon cord and so on. A single closure
shoe can be an advantage for a short course triathlete
where speed of entry and exit from the shoe may be
of
greater importance than chasing the last degree of
cycling efficiency. No systemhas gained universal
acceptance, though an upper ratchet strap combined with
lower Velcro straps or other closure systems is the most
common. Frankly it doesn’t matter what the closure
system is. What matters is how securely the shoe fits,
whether or not the closure system can be adjusted easily
on the fly, and how well the closures last over time. sidi gets an
honourable mention here because their ratchet straps can
be adjusted while on the bike in half ratchet increments
while using one finger only. |
